5 Tips to Maintain Your Polished Floors

How do you keep your polished floors looking their best? There are a few simple things that you can do to maintain the shine and lustre of your flooring. In this blog post, we will discuss 5 tips for maintaining polished floors!

Tip One: Sweep and mop your floors regularly. This helps to remove debris from the surface of the floor that can cause dirt build-up and dullness in colour over time. If you have hardwood, this is especially important because excess moisture will speed up wear on these types of surfaces. Cleaning the floors with a microfiber mop or vacuum cleaner is important, but it won’t clean deep down into the grout unless you use an additional cleaning product specifically for hardwood floors.

Tip Two: Moisture is one of the things that can cause hardwood floors to wear out. If you have hardwood floors in your kitchen, there are other places where it will be exposed to a lot of moisture like water coming from the sink, overflows from dishwashers and leaking refrigerators. In these cases, we recommend putting a soft mat on the floor so that it can absorb any spilled water or moisture that comes in contact with the floor. Water can come from rain coming through windows or from spilled water. If you have water on the floor, it should be cleaned up quickly so it doesn’t seep into the hardwood floor and cause damage. You can use placemats to keep the water off your floor at doors.

Tip Three: With the latest technologies and products, there is really no need to continue polishing. However, after 5 years of life and wear – We suggest a recoat of the product on top to enhance the lustre and longevity that already exists.

Tip Four: You should always remove your footwear before walking on your timber floor. Your shoes are likely to have dirt on the soles that can mark your floor as you step on them. There are also other substances that can be transferred from the soles of your shoes to the floor, such as cooking oil and food debris. Do not drag furniture across polished timber floors. You should always use a towel or protective mat when moving heavy items over your flooring so it does not scuff or scratch the surface. If you have pets in the house they may cause permanent damage by clawing at them with their paws which will end up scratching off some of these layers of polish causing watermarks and preventing any future polishing from happening properly.

Tip Five: Not unlike other types of flooring, being exposed to direct sunlight will cause your timber flooring to fade. To avoid this, close the curtains and blinds during the day to help keep your flooring looking its best!
